Today is my first attempt at 'blogging' and I thought I'd let everyone know the facts of a very popular anti spyware product called Spybot Search & Destroy. I'm in the type of business that constantly fights spyware at work (not to mention at home), and one of my favorite free tools is Spybot Search & Destroy. I used it for about 2 years when I discovered that this is in fact spyware itself. I'm not sure when the creator of this software sold out to the ad giants but he at least left you an option to tweak his program to work properly. What made me suspicious in the first place is that when you click on Mode/Advanced Mode, it warns you about more options and then asks if you really want to switch to the advanced mode. Hmmm, kinda funny I thought, why not just let us in and be done with it? Here's why:
After switching to Advanced Mode, click on the Settings tab and then click the Ignore products tab. After going through the list I noticed some of the worst types of spyware were checked off, this meant when the program ran that these "baddies" would be ignored. The list of bad spyware varies from time to time so you have to check it every time you update your definitions. All you have to do to fix it is to right click in the window and de-select all. Its a great program after that, especially since its free and considering some of the paid for anti spyware is even worse.
Has anybody discovered any other so called anti spyware software like that? I would like to know as I have many hundreds of computers to keep clean.
